For most categories Amazon takes a 15% referral fee on the total sale price, with a $0.30 minimum. If you use FBA, you also pay a fulfilment fee per unit based on size and weight, typically $3–$7 for standard-size items, plus monthly storage. Together these often total 30–40% of the price of a low-cost item.

Dimensional weight is a size-based weight Amazon calculates as length × width × height in inches divided by 139. For large standard and bulky items, Amazon charges fulfilment on whichever is greater: the unit weight or the dimensional weight. Small standard items use unit weight. Light but bulky products can therefore cost more to fulfil than their weight suggests.

Amazon charges monthly storage per cubic foot of inventory. For standard-size items it has been about $0.78 per cubic foot from January to September and about $2.40 from October to December, with lower rates for oversize items. Aged inventory and low inventory levels can trigger extra surcharges, so storage cost depends on how fast you sell.

It applies Amazon's published fee structure - referral percentages, size tiers, dimensional weight and storage rates - from a fee table stored in the site's code. Amazon updates fees regularly and some programmes add surcharges or discounts, so treat the result as an estimate and confirm the final figures in Amazon's revenue calculator before you order inventory.

Many FBA sellers look for a net margin of at least 20–30% after all Amazon fees, product cost, inbound shipping and advertising, and an ROI of 100% or more on product cost. Lower margins leave little room for price drops, PPC cost increases or returns. Use the break-even price to see how far price can fall.
